Volvo engine dials \"misty\"

I have a KAD42 and engine dials (except RPM) look like they have been brilloed, but in fact its where there has been condensation looks like inside (just got boat so dont know). Dials made by VDO Technik. Has anyone experience of this please and can these dials be stripped and cleaned?

My VDO dials do exactly the same every now and again but they clear after an hours (or less) use. So I've taken the easy way out - and done nothing!

Switch the illumination of the dials on for half an hour when you visit the boat. In fact switch on all electronics upon your visit. It dries 'em out.

You pay extra for this effect - don't forget they are marinised and therefore about 3 times the cost of a car dial.

Sorry to be like this but I have a unit to tell me the angle of my outdrive sitting on my shelf by my desk and this cost over £300 to replace - you guessed it damp getting inside destroyed it. I suppose it would be beyond the realms of Volvo to have units produced that did not let condensation in.

Or maybe we should just fit car instruments.

Sounds like the same dials as on my Windy - and I have the same problem. I intend to dry them out when the weather gets better, or possib ly use a hair dryer to drive the moisture out. If you come up with a workable solution before I do, please let me know.

Have you tried using a hairdryer from the outside. I used to do that on one of my old cars headlights. It worked a treat.

Thanks for the tips and I wished this was the problem. Alas not so simple. It is not damp. Have now taken lens off and problem is thought by Volvo local agent to be UV damage to plastic. This opacity is in the plastic and will not polish out! Now pursuing with Volvo and OEM of instruments, but if anyone has had similar problem would be glad to hear please.

Problem fixed - lenses are double glazed on VDO instruments and this was some trapped vapour between.
