I am about to purchase an EDC display unit for my Kad300. I primarily want it to show me fuel consumption, the question to the forum is the fuel consumption figures sent from the engine management accurate and does it consider the unused fuel being returned to the tank? In other words, for those that have them, do you find it useful and accurate?

I might be totally wrong, but I thought that sort of data was only from the D series, and not the Kads?
I would just look at a revs/lph table, and know that 3000 revs is 35 lph etc, and be done with it !

Tee-hee, I don't often get to say this to you, but gjgm, you're totally wrong! :D

Cheers

Haa haa.. when I saw it was you that replied, I thought ohh oh !!
OK, learn something every day.
I m gonna check !!
Not sure I would want to know how much I m burning, myself. If I go a bit slower, a bit less ;) But what exact number that is doesnt seem very interesting.
BTW fitted those super shiny throttles. They work just as well as the old ones !!

Edit: ok I guessed there wasnt any output as the manual doesnt mention it, but I m sure if you say there is, you are right !

The fuel consumption should be accurate as the ecu calculates it from the amount it is telling the injection pump to deliver. It can't allow for a worn pump or poor injectors.

The EDC (not EVC on a Kad 300) display will show you it in liters per hour not per nautical mile unless it is given a speed input. You may find that you need the Volvo nmea gateway box which costs £££££.

You may find it better to get the Volvo nmea gateway and a chart plotter that can display the engine data. There are lots that do now.

What you really need is one that displays £ per nautical mile!

Hi Ryan

I have the EDC display on my KAD300, it seems to work well and appears to be accurate.

I found it very interesting just how many LPH you save by shutting her back a very few revs, with only a small drop in speed, so in that respect I find it very useful.
