Next problem
I notices that while the engine running Im getting a tiny spray of water is coming out of the seal
When the engine is off it dry ,
How much do I need to worry about this for the time being ?
And
I have change a sea cock in the water before has anyone change a seal while in the water ?
If so how much water do I expect to get in and any way of slowing it down .

Obviously it needs changing, as for when, I wouldn't set off on a long cruise, but wouldn't be too worried about local pottering. As for stopping the water flow, can you inject grease under the seal?

I can think of someone who might have been tempted to change it in the water, but I reckon that if you're asking, the answer's a definite no.

For a replacement, have a look at ASAP's Obitrade seals, which are the same as the Volvo ones, but have a breather pipe that means they don't need to be burped after drying out.

That is a sign the lip seals are damaged but injecting some grease may reduce the leak in the short run. as suggested replace it with either the Orbitrade or RMTA/Radice version which as well as having and air vent also have a greasing point.

My old seal did this and once removed I noticed that the stainless shaft was pitted where the seal is made causing the leaking. I ended up replacing the shaft and seal out the water.

To the OP, if you find your shaft is pitted and / or scored, consider a PSS seal. The dynamic part of these does not rely on a smooth prop shaft, as the Volvo, Orbitrade and Radice seals do, and so may work out cheaper or easier than replacing or repairing the shaft.

The difference in price between a Radice seal and a PSS for a 25mm/1" size is £240. Im of new shaft with key and nut is £228 (bot ex VAT.). No contest
