Well here we go again, yet another dph woe.

Customer rang" clean oil is coming out my exhaust while boats out of water" asked at local dealer if they had had similar experience, no never heard of it they say.

Stripped drive today, dph is only in two main casings to find extensive corrosion between the two mating surfaces.

The older drives have rubber o rings surrounding the oil ways from lower the middle, middle to upper sections so they hardly ever leak, ahh but not on the dph, its a gasket so its not very forgiving in the marine environment as it can't take up any movement between the two halves without leaking.
Leg was full of water too, mating surfaces badly corroded which has expanded and pushed itself apart allowing water in and the oil to exit between the housings down the exhaust, a simple low pressure test proved this prior to dismantling.

Yet another step in the wrong direction, the gasket has not been improved either.

I also stripped another drive that was leaking out the input seal into the bellows then into the engine bay via the jackshaft, examined to find the input gear badly machined allowing the universal joint shaft to Ossilate that wildly it took the bearings out and the seal too.

Anyone else had similar woes??

I'm glad I bought a KAD300 / DP-G combo... sorry can't contribute other than show my relief. My worry is.... for my next boat am I going to have no choice but to the D / DP-H combo? The lake where I cruise is too shallow and people with exposed shafts usually end up in bother... need to stick with drives

What about the DPS drives? All "O" ring seals as far as I can see. Mine seems to have some, for want of a better description, "slack" in the upper unit. It's nor the UJs, but if the input shaft is moved either way here's some movement, a click within the upper unit. It feels/ sounds like excessive clearance. between the gears that turn the shaft movement 90 deg. Is that normal ?
