Noticed a chunk out of one of the props on my port side drive at weekend. Anodes still present, although worn so must have either hit something or a previous repair has failed.
Props weren't in great shape when boat bought last October.

Props same price in $ than in £ here. Has anyone imported any, and if so, do you have a recommendation?

Thanks
Adam

Get them repaired, I had two sets done at Streamline propellers only £90+vat each, one blade had a 1 inch deep chunk 2 inches wide out of it, you'll be amazed what can be repaired. Also try SteelDevelopments.

I would repair the old pair but only as a spare set.

I used to carry 6 spare props, 3 complete sets along with spare cone.

They dont last forever and become weak.

Even some new ( 1 month 300nm) broke off.

it was always the 4 blade prop, one blade would vanish.

Clear water 24 knots and a vibration would start, I knew a blade had shed.

As they could go at any time reducing me to 8 knots I carried loads of spares and carried all the gear to change at sea in a grab bag.

There are always duo props for sale on Ebay and Boatsandoutboards is another good place to look. Finally a phone call to Coastal rides normally offers a decent selection of new and used.

I bought a bravo 3 set from the US last year.
Saved about 40%, no problems with the service or delivery.
You could save more if the props are shipped and labled as warranty replacement parts therfore not attracting tax and duty.

Ye gods, what were you doing to them /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Then again, on the bigger diesels and heavier boats, maybe more stresses and strains.

I never broke a prop, but had to buy a new set at 400hrs after "touching" the mud once too often.

Just a fairline corniche, AQAD41 on 290 duoprops

Some props would last 10 000 nm others would go almost immediately.

I put it down to faults in the casting and the four blade is thiner than the three blade.

In my opinion there are numerous faults with marine pleasure engines, the manufactures get away with it as only a few do serious miles.
95% of boats are just tied up or solent based so it takes years for faults to be pin pointed by the public by which time the manufactures have brought out series II because they knew about the fault 10 years previous.

The props were not grounded, no impact damage, some of the props had cavitation pin pricks to the hubs but the blades snapped off about 1/2 inch off the hub where there was no cavitation damage.

I could change an outer prop at sea in 15-20 mins, anything above a F4 and I was looking for a calm bay, strip off and get wet as the swell washed over the bathing platform .

Thanks everyone, have got some good quotes to repair/replace. Will consider the Us option and note the labelling as warranty parts!!

cheers
Adam
