I'll need to do my DP-G leg this winter, so it's an out-drive off job (can't split the leg).

Can anyone advise on where to get a suitable extractable tool / slide hammer to remove the pins in question? (The large pints holding the leg to the transom shield) - Everything else i'm fine with from previous experience.

I machined up a drift in steel with a nose on it which fits the hole in the pin to align it and hold it central so no danger of damaging aluminium casting, a few blows with a hammer knocks it inwards, and if the last mechanic did the job properly and used waterproof grease they will slide out easily, I always clean them with 3M scrub pad or similar. And on refitting don't risk your fingers to check if the holes are aligned, I use two 1/2" socket set extensions as temporary hinge pins and to take the weight, juggle the drive around until its pretty close then pull out one extension and fine tune alignment with a screwdriver and refit the pin, then repeat with other side. Don't use your fingers to check the H frame is lined up with the transom on a drive weighing over 70 kg!

After you've tapped them in a little, how do they slide out? Or do you tap them in completely, and then remove them from inside? (I think it was mentioned before that you can do this by turning the out-drive fully left/right to avoid hitting the helmet)
