My engines are 10 years old with 650 hours for the last few seasons most of my cruising has been at 1200 rpm displacement speed with the occasional blast to give the turbo a clear out. Recently the port engine has been difficult to start and when it does it seems to be misfiring for a minute, it does seem to be cranking at the right speed but if I parallel the starting battery with the domestic the engine starts faster but still a bit rough on idle. Conversely the starboard engine starts perfectly and runs smooth from the start up.

Any ideas? could I have fouled the injectors by running at low revs? if so why are the symptoms not evident on the starboard engine. As always your comments would be appreciated.

I'd start by checking for any loose unions in the high pressure fuel lines that might be allowing an air pocket to form.

i have the same engines, when serviced last year the engineer found wax in the filters which if got into the injectors could cause poor starting. He uses a fuel additive called Spanjaard won't know till next service in October if this has help eliminate the potential issue.Starting was not an issue just the wax.
He also used a product called Salt Away to clear the cooling system. Last week we put a half a cup in my friends sea water filter, run the engine for minute switched of for 3 minutes then started the engine the water run white then clear.Seems to work.
