I've got poor flow through my engine raw water cooling system, often caused by the restriction of the saildrive seacock and the growth of weed and barnacles in the saildrive passage. I am tempted to put a larger seacock in the bottom of the boat for the raw water. Has anyone done this? Boat is a 2003 bav 40.

Straightforward, but you need to find a suitable place to site the seacock so that it is easy to access the handle. Makes sense also to put in a diverter valve so you have the choice of either intake.

Most of the water comes through the 1" hole in the nose of the leg so worth check this has not been overlooked as it's easy to miss

I too had problems with my d2 55 saildrive on my 2003 b38 , after speaking to my service fella he said lots of people have this problem and best to fit new intake which i did , the valve in the sail drive is only 1/2 inch , i put a 3/4 " skinfitting and seacock just under steps , put a break in tube so that i can easily rod through if needed , i used a straight through hull fitting rather than grilled scoop , they fill with mussels too ,

Didnt bother teeing in the old intake as it would be blocked from lack of use .

Delighted , wished id done it ages ago , engine loving it and tons of water all the time .

Did this with my VP2003 as a backup. A few blasts from a plunger type dinghy pump attached to the saildrive valve is useful for emergency waterway clearance I have found.
