I recently had a 4" EVC Display fitted which works fine but does not show real time fuel consumption as it did on my previous boat with D9's fitted. The Volvo agents in Corfu are telling me that I need new software for both engines and the job will cost about €2400! Does anyone have any ideas how else this can be achieved or is there a work around! I was told that the standard display (on the tachographs) usually display real time consumption but it doesn't on mine.

Have you got the VP display as in this photo above the plotters ? If so I would have thought the engine would have displayed the fuel rate if you work through to the correct screen in the menu. Do you have instructions on the menus ? I can go through the menus and bring up several options showing various fuel burn displays , the one shown is just displaying for the sb engine in that graph form. I'm assuming this but without knowing if different installations have varying engine software available for display. I did get an addition to my engines' info to allow the engine data to be shown on the plotters but I think you're looking for it on the smaller VP displays ??

Thanks for the rapid response Andrew.M. Going through the menu on the display when I get to Fuel it just says "available as an option" I'm sure the information is available as the engine management system needs it but probably Volvo's way of extracting another £1000 from me for a software change.

on the D3's it was a extra software option of approx 400euro / per engine iirc .
we purchased that option (for one engine only ) when the boat was 2y old.

Thanks for that I have emailed Yacht Devices but I'm not hopeful as they suggest that fuel information is available subject to output from the engines.

Did he take the readings from the Vodia service connector or from the Multilink bus if the former it will only display on a NMEA2000 MFD if the latter I guess your engine software hade the "Fuel Trip Computer" software which mine doesn't

What are your serial numbers? If you can share those it should be a quick check to see if the software option is already activated. If they don’t have the software then it’s not €2400 to load it ?

Jrudge, with yacht devices thing in your system are you able to see litres per mile on your mfd? As opposed to litres per hour?

No.

It shows three fuel variables ( the mfd ( old c120 classic ) does not seem to do any calculations it just displays.

I get

- fuel flow port / stbd / combined
- coolant temp
- boost
- oil temp
- volts ( single measure )
- oil pressure
- engine hours
- rpm

A newer mfd might show more of have the nouse to calc l per nm

I have speed and consumption next to each other so I do it in my head ( roughly ) but it would be nice

I connected mine to the upper helm. Which took minutes. I only see data on that helm when it is selected. I don’t use the lower helm at all. If you install in the engine room it works all the time but it is a load of wiring and I could not see the point
