My starboard Ad41B has developed a leak. green fluid (coolant) leaking from behind oil cooler so cant see where its coming from, it has been suggested that its a seal that connects the cooler to the side of the engine. To get at that i will probably have to take of heat exchanger and the oil cooler, does that make sense and will i have to replace all seals and any gaskets along the way,and whats the easiest way to drain the heat exchanger without dumping its contents in the bilge?

Try for a start, undoing the little bracket that holds the two inch thick steel pipe from the filler cap thingy and goes across the top of engine. The pipe will then come off easy. Theres an O ring at each end. Renew them or clean them up and add a bit of grease. Stick it back together and see if your leak is cured. Mine was. If it's not that one. There are loads more of these silly, bound to leak, pipe fittings. So just go round them all. You have to laugh it's a V*l** !!

I re-assembled my hear exhanger and refitted using 3 new O rings and one old.
The old one leaked. I now nearly allway replace O rings and have little or no leaks. My volvo tech had a presure pump to test the system which shows up leaks pretty well. No coollant goes trough the oil cooler so I would not remove this at first.

If in need of pro advice: www.boatdiesel.com and the volvo forum.
