Hi,

Have seen a few boats I may be interested in, some of them have Volvo AQ120 / 120A (Petrol) engines fitted but what are these engine parts like to get hold of?

thanks Gav.

The AQ 110, AQ115, AQ120 and AQ130 were all based on the B20 car engine, which is certainly getting on a bit now.
The Volvo B18 & B20 engine was fitted to Volvos during the long period; 1961 to 1974 (B18 1961 to 1969 then B20 upto 1974. It was installed in the following models; PV544, P210, P120, P130, P220, P1800 all models, all 140 models and in some of the very first 240 models in 1975.
It is an four-cylinder, OHV (over head valve - with pushrods) engine. A very durable, strong construction, very overdimentioned for today's standards. Except for cars it was also used in Volvo-BM tractors, combined harvesters, army vehichles and lots of other machinery.

Just a comment but whatever boat you buy the condition of the engine will depend on previous owners maintaince.Better well used high hour cherished toy than no hour rotting away internals marina queen.Unless of course you are ace fixer who prefers on sunny days fixing stuff instead of using boat..................

Its a V**V* so get use to fixing it! Shame really. I've had Volvo cars in the past (can't belive I just admitted that!) and they were reliable and went round the clock a few times with just routine maitnance. So why can't the marine lumps do the same. (please not based on my experience with my Red Dread)

Me dad had a 240. the thing just rusted away around him and he still refused to scrap it until the MOT man condemned the nasty thing..
But the engine went on and on and on.

Now thats interesing, in 1985 started new job which came with car.... or rather a Volvo 240GL estate. It was the one of the most unreliable heaps I've ever driven. Including valves stretching (quite common according to local garage) etc. The local dealer made Dick Turpin look quite reasonable as well, also incredibly thirsty, something to do with having a petrol boat. So most weekends 2 outboard tanks got filled with the car!

And what do I do, bu boat with 2 of the bloody things in!!!!!
