Asking for someone, if anybody knows please: Do these motors all rotate the same way, or are port and starboard different? ( Not the outdrives or props, the actual engines) Many thanks

He is asking about engine rotation. Which is clockwise, viewing from the front.
The guy isn't sure if both engines have the same direction of rotation. Apparently camshafts are available for both directions. Thanks for the answers

Surely it should be easily seen by eye? Belts etc would have pulleys placed differently etc as the slack side swaps over. If it has a cam chain that would be different. Starter motor, raw and water pumps etc etc etc. Reversing an engine is not by camshaft alone.

The OP question was simple but I made the mistake of assuming what he actually may have of asked as it was an obvious reason for the question being asked

They must be incredibly rare and expensive engines if they can be specified to run in either direction. I thought that had stopped years ago as there is no point in doing this with modern gearboxes and drives.

The answer to your question is I think, that being a VP engine, most or all of these vp engines will be LH rotation and the difference is that VP drives can be reversed at the drive them selves. Unlike a mercruiser, where the actual engine rotation is actually reversed. So on them the whole timing, starter and a few other things like oil pump etc are all reversed. Long story short, if it’s like other VP’s I’m aware of...the counter rotation of the actual prop is done at the outdrive...not the engine
