Hello to every one.
I have just brought A YEAR 2000 Sealine S24 Which I love! But which has a Volvo AD31P-A diesel engine with a DP-E2.32 Transmission . The boat is going to stay a float this winter on an inland river could any one tell me how best I should go about winterise this set up please? Any help would be most great full and also where I might get a manual for this engine as well been use to little Freeman's and this is all a bit bigger so would really appreciate any help or ideas to what I need to do? Thanks.

My best wishes Kev.

I've got 2 AD31Ps which usually stay in all winter on the Thames, I've never winterised the engines if staying in, we don't get hard enough winters. Drain the domestic water system but not much else required. If staying in the water around the boat insulates it.
Just Google Volvo manuals you can download from the Volvo site amongst others.

I use a tube heater in the engine bay controlled by a thermostat. Does your mooring have shore power?

Thanks I did wonder about using these low wattage tube heaters, as yes we have shore power. I assume its pretty safe to do this . Thanks I think I might go down this route and try this.

There's loads of technical info on the Sealine forum. You'll need to register but here's the link....

Hi thanks so much for this link I have tried to register and would love to get in but I just get a message up saying that I'm going to post spam! And I can't then get any further do you know if there is a problem with the site? Or maybe its my mail address but have tried two now still the same happens.

Thanks Kev.

There is nothing wrong with the usual operation of the sealine forum. If you have registered perhaps try again later.

Perfectly safe, everybody does it.

A few years ago on Loch Lomond....everybody does it and perfectly safe was the given advice....then the whole marina shore power circuit tripped for a few days.....you can imagine the results ! Let's just say insurance fees went up a fair bit next year in the area and the local Mercruiser dealer retired soon after.

Bad advise that, for the very reason you give although I can’t see why insurance pays out for lack of care, and no not everybody does it as many I know will antifreeze their engine and drain the domestic water systems

Despite the use of a frost protection heater for the engine bay I also drain the domestic water system, not forgetting to shake water out of the shower heads.
It will be November before I do anything.I can get to my boat quickly if an unexpected significant frost should be forecast.
Moisture traps should work okay as a little damp protection.

Thank you everyone for you comments advice and saying what you do re winterising! It so good the boating world remains so friendly and help full. I must be honest with the smaller marine diesel engine I have had over the years I have always in late November run the engine up to temperature then shut the sea cock to off and rigged something up so the pump would suck this sea safe anti freeze up in to the engine. I have always done that. But now perhaps some one can enlighten me here as on this Sealine S24 there is no manual sea cock to turn off that I can find. I can only assume that with the engine not running say if you wanted to change the water pump impeller say then you would be OK but to pull one of those hoses off then run the engine water is going to flood in I suppose as it must be on some sort of valve I assume?. I could bung the end then sort a pipe and bucket so as the anti freeze was sucked up the pump and round the engine then with engine off again un bung and reconnect main hose?

Thanks to all again.

Kev.
