Just had my engines serviced and before that used to get a lot of black smoke whilst accelerating onto the plane. Happens when the turbo's spool up and both engines smoke pretty much the same. Thought new air filters would cure the problem but after a run today they both smoke exactly the same so am wondering what might be the problem.
Any ideas?
Btw new props, clean bum, fresh fuel, full tanks.
Boat is Targa 43.

Hi andy,

Well is t just a puff of smoke and then all clear after that?

The air filters were solid with soot as the elbow on the starboard engine was leaking exhaust gas, did you check its sealing or is there still some water dripping out? If so the turbo needs refacing as its corroded.

What speed and max rpm did you get? Next move will be a boost test and check or renew the boost pressure sensors. There was a little water in the feed pipes which I drained off but the early sensors suffer from water infestation and only partially work when this happens to corroded them inside, also the air port blocks up. The later sensors are a different design to stop problems with low boost.
