Volvo 431b backfire & will not start

As the boat has been out of the water for 8 months, I decided to give the engine a service.
I changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filters ( 2 ), spark plugs and rotor arm. I also carried out all the normal stuff on the leg - oil, anodes etc etc.

When i tried to start the engine - it doesn't. It turns over but nothing apart from a backfire through the carb every couple of seconds.

i am wondering if I've got the plug leads in the right order ( 1, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 ) assuming No 1 on the distributor is facing the bow

i'd really welcome any help on this one

Haven’t got the manual to hand but if you Google Volvo v6 firing order you will get pics of the plug lead sequence.
