Just a quick (hopefully) update. The engine lift arrangements did not materialize. There does not seem to be a drain hole in the bell housing. After removing the leg and the rear jackshaft seal the exposed part of the shaft appears to be in quite good/clean condition. With the help and advice from a local marine engineer I have decided to leave the engine and fuel tank removal until the end of this season. The BH top breather plate was removed and the engine was rotated manually through 360 degrees and the flywheel cogs were inspected and any crud removed. About 0.5 litres of a mix of diesel/lube oil was administered via the vacant starter position and the refurbished starter and battery refitted. The transom plate water inlet tube was refitted and extended into a large water barrel which was fed by a constant supply of tap water. The engine stared very easily and ran well, pumping lots of water from the TP. The engine was run like this for over 30 mins and the jackshaft outer end bearing was monitored, it ran smoothly, with no sign of the bearing picking up or getting warm. During this time the engine was occasionally run up to about 2500 revs. The PLUG that I referred to in the bobtail was removed and grease was applied under pressure until surprise surprise grease came out the the rear bearing, so thay is a grease point. Anyway, I have decided to refit the leg with the new parts that arrived today from Volspec and gret the boat into the water. I shall post any further happenings in mr Carrera re-fit thread.Geoff
