hi has anybody had this problem, I am getting deisel into my sump. Engine starts fine runs ok but the oil level rises considerably in a couple of days. I am assuming it is not water as the oil appears free of water( not cloudy) as far as I can see there are only two places it could come from 1 the lift pump but surely if the that were the case it would not pump, 2 is it possible that the diesel pumps could be leaking back into the sump, are there oil seals where they fit into the crankcase ? help need as I am going on holiday in a few days.
Regards Mike

Check the lift pump diaphragm first as that is the easier job to tackle and the more likely to be the trouble.

I'd also look first at the lift pump. The engine will run even with a small leak in the diaphragm. As far as the fuel pumps are concerned, you can see their construction by downloading the parts manual from here.

would the engine run if the Diaphragm were broken.

[/ QUOTE ] Just a little pin hole may be all you are suffering from. Not big enough to stop the pump from working unless the fuel level in the tank is very much lower but enough to allow a continuous dribble into the sump if the fuel level is higher.

I have not checked, thats for you to do, but there may be a workshop manual on This site

Similarly I have not checked pvb's link (At least I tried but nothing appeared) but there are exploded diagrams HERE They may be the same ones or they may not include your engine, again I have not checked.

Water would not necessarily make the oil milky until the engine was used and mixed the water and oil into an emulsion. In other words, if you havent used the engine dont doi so until you have drained and refilled the sump.

Actually, the above is a bit of a statement of the ble*ding obvious, but just in case I'll leave it (I've done dafter things myself /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif )

I've had a similar problem with my 2003 fitted in a Westerly Seahawk. The problem was with the flexible supply pipe from the main filter to the lift pump which over time had been worn through from being routed too close to the engine mounts. It was less that a pinhole and delivered a fine 'mist' of fuel in to the bilge. It never affected the engine running at all and I was only able to find it by following the whole fuel system through with a paper towel when the engine was runnig.

hope this helps.

The seal at the bottom od the diesel distributor pump is leaking inside the engine, take it for service and should cure the problem, I had a similar problem on my 2003. I also removed and serviced the 3 injecors as a precaution. (these might be a bit of a headache to remove unless you have a special removal tool.)
