I've just been trawling the old posts relating to the failure of Volvo 2003 gearbox splines.

Can anyone tell me the range of serial numbers that were involved?

Many thanks in advance

Theres an article in Sailing Today June issue page 45. Engines from serial number 2300059128 were fitted with a revised drive plate. So any serial number lower than that is suspect.

Also have a look at www.westerly-owners.co.uk/index.html were there are photos of worn splines.

If you go into the yahoogroups and find the westerly-owners postings, you will be able to read through a mountain of postings. Alternatively, PM me with your email addy and I will copy them all to you.

If you want more info, send me a PM and I will give you the email address of the collator of all the Westerly information posted on that site.

regards,
Philip

There's also something on this subject in the current PBO. Interesting to read that Volvo changed the design as a result of "input feedback from commercial users" but it was not a design fault. So what did the commercial users say - "it might be a nice idea to change this but we haven't had any problems with it"? Oh yes.
