Hi all,
I was asked to look at one of these today re: an injector pump problem. While sorting that, I noticed a couple of copper washers on the head by the injectors. Asked why the were there, "well, I have some leakage from one of the injector seats" So the question is: Do the injectors have washers to seat them in the head or not? I know that some of them don't in the smaller, older engines. He has just had the injectors serviced, but the agent gave no advice. He has fitted this used engine as part of a 7yr rebuild of an old gaff oyster dredger. Just put it in the water and got a bit dispirited when he thought he had bu++ered up the injector pump control slide (not so, in this case)
I have had a quick look around the web, without much joy.
Any peeps know?

And BTW, he doesn't remember if they were there when he removed the injectors, these are new washers.
 
As luck would have it, have a look at my post below about the 2003.
There are no washers just a copper sleeve, a spectacularly bad design in my opinion.

Yes, until the injector has harded the copper over the years. Then it won't seal when you put the injector back in (or so I found!). I got mine to seal by means of judicious over-tightening, but I wouldn't recommend it! Personally, I can't see what would be wrong with using a very thin copper washer.
 
Thanks for the input. The washers are around 1mm thick. He is going to try the engine tomorrow (it was high and dry today) Lets see.

1mm sounds too thick - it risks having the injector head too far out of the chamber. Any chance of thinning them down on some emery? BTW, I've just noticed this subject is being well covered in another current post.
 
My experience is..after head and injector overhaul, my 2003 ran better without copper washers under injectors. So assume not required..
