It seems likely my volvo 2001 lift pump is suspect. K Parts list 2 choices a Repair Kit for Early Unsealed Fuel Lift Pump or a sealed type Lift Pump Assembly.

If, when I get to take the pump off, I find it is in need of TLC is there any advantage in changing to the sealed type pump instead of swervicing the older one?

Hi

Not sure if there are any advantages other than the cost. New type pump is cheaper but you are supposed the change the fuel pipe(£42) from the pump to the filter because the new pump is slightly different to the old type. You can force the old pipe into place but you might find you won't get a good seal on the banjo. I have the new type fitted and had a slight drip. I discovered the banjo bolt was slightly too long and was bottoming out in the body of the pump, preventing the copper washers squashing properly. I removed a bit off the end of the banjo with a file and it's OK now.

Keyparts also sell a fuel pipe washer kit, part No 22030 which might be worth having onboard.

I fitted a new lift pump and the accompanying fuel pipe to a VP 2003 yesterday. This was more difficult than it should have been because the inlet pipe from the pre filter fouled the oil pressure sensor. I eventually bent the bracket for the sensor to accommodate this.

Seems to work otherwise.
