Is that why you left so quickly? To Go chase em......

I was gonna pop over and proffer a can of Copenhagen.

I tend to agree, although in the US they have appointed deputies, for example in court buildings and I believe the system works ok. They are licensed and controlled and in the main there is some training requirement.
That said I would love to reduce the size of the Armed Forces and what better pool of men to select from to bee up our Border Patrol/Coastguard and Police Forces from.

To be honest, the less we are like the US the better.. (IMO) My biggest issue being that our interpretation of how the US works is normally miles off track as the civil servants at the 'top' who control these things, are more out of touch than asking advice from Sooty and Sweep.

I agree regarding the Armed Forces. I did some voluntary work with some of the guys for 'Project Mobility', where they are raising money for those who've lost limbs etc, in service (They appeared on TopGear)

Anyway, my point is.... What a great bunch of guys and hugely dedicated to our country. (Often for little recognition) Many would make very fine 'Police'

Fred Drift Alert!

This afternoon I heard a vessel call Volunteer for help. The caller said they were on passage from Titchmarsh to Suffolk Yacht Harbour (Levington), and were close to the Pye End buoy. They had some engine problem. They were now under sail, but wouldn't be able to get into SYH unaided.

Volunteer said they'd be there as soon as they could, which was kind, I thought.

We also saw them towing a small powerboat up the Orwell yeasterday afternoon. It had obviously suffered power loss of Levington and was adrift in mid channel.

They have assisted fellow club members on a number of occasions over the last few years. Good on them is my view.

Better still, re excessive speed would be to have a proper Police presence in the Suffolk rivers, but in these cash strapped times that is very unlikely.
