That seems a strange route to have booked. Skiathos being an island I don't think they refuel planes there, and I understood this is why at least once we called in at Volos airport on our flight home from Skiathos.
I think the OP meant flight to Skiathos, ferry to Volos which is exactly what we did recently since not many UK based charter operators offer boats out of Skiathos now (Dream Yacht Charter withdrew a couple of years ago).

Probably best route is a claim on your travel insurance.

Yes, exactly that.

I am sat in the sun on Kefalonia, every Greek tv news channel has been showing the devastation that the storm has caused, make no mistake they are certainly aware of the chaos it has caused, good luck anyway, sorry you lost your trip.

Thanks Davy - by all accounts we're about to lose the money too but in the scheme of things we could be stuck in Greece, so, small mercies. I do feel awful for the people that are going though it.

Depends on the precise wording in the charter agreement you signed with Sail Aegean, but in the agreements we used to use the onus on the charter company was to get the yacht to the agreed starting point on time and in good condition. The onus was on the charterer to get him/her/themselves to the starting point on time. There was usually a force majeure clause for bad weather, but this was with reference to the yacht being unable to get to the start. If for any reason the charterer was unable to make the start, this was their liability entirely.
In this case in Greece, assuming the yacht was actually in port and ready to go on the starting date (was it really?), then I think the OP should be looking to his/her/their own travel insurance . Or count the cost as painful experience.

I imagine the OP knows full well the legal position is pretty much as you say. What she is asking for is a modicum of good will in circumstances where she is prevented from reaching the yacht by local conditions where the yacht is located. Her request is not unreasonable and @sailaegean are making matters worse by lying to her.

sorry, haven't posted here since the disaster.
things back in Volos are not getting better much faster, the whole Pagasitikos bay is a mess, when I left on the boat 8days ago I had to go at 4kn and slalom around debris that ranged from small branches and leaves/bushes to big logs, various plastic containers and anything that floats basically. Conditions back there were bad enough to persuade me to leave with the boat for a week, going back the day after.
@shan can you please PM me your details and booking ref or whatever and I can nicely ask some ppl that have worked as skippers for them and see what they may do/have done in other cases? Unfortunately don't know anyone in management, just some guys doing skippering work and the guys doing the setting up, provisions, etc.
Surely NOT a small operation, must have around 30+ sailboats from 30ft up to 60 based in Volos and for sure that week nothing moved.
a poor guy that managed to start his charter on the 9th, came across a body floating near Trikeri  that was some vacation start!

fwiw, weather and conditions are absolutely fine outside the bay, so a week in Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos was very welcomed after a week at home with no el and water (ended up half the days in the boat in port to have showers and sleep with simple things as 230V).
for the record, yesterday they issued a warning against fishing in the whole bay as waters are not safe (not sure if swimming is also prohibited)

cheers
V.
