Hi,

Has anyone had any success in preventing corrosion on tools left on board by wrapping them in VCI paper ? If so is any brand better than another for marine use ?

Can't answer the question but last Winter I invested in two largish leather tool rolls and rolled up in each one an old sock which I'd sprayed with Wurth Ultra 2040. Seems to have worked so far and certainly tidied up the tool locker.

Yes It is good. I bought a packet years ago and it still works. Mind it is not perfect. I will deter rust but over time it loses effect and needs to be replaced.

I can't recommend a brand but spare parts such as steel gaskets on rigs in the North Sea were wrapped in VCI paper as part of a longterm layup procedure. Wastage of spare parts was zero in conditions where heating and ventilation were switched off, hence I can recommend that this stuff works. I have a quality vernier calliper that was wrapped in VCI and it remained rust free for years. I lost the paper and light rust staining has appeared (stored in my garage at home).

I was also wondering that. I keep a selection of tools in a plastic toolbox in one of my saloon lockers and don't have any corrosion problems. Perhaps you need to store them in a different locker? Although must admit that my cat saloon is well above sea level.

Me too, plastic toolboxes, one in a saloon locker, one in a bilge locker. No problems. And I've only got a monohull!
