Does anyone know current situation (2004) regarding Viviero. I believe a hoist was due to be installed, making this port a possibilty for overwintering. Alternatively does anyone know other suitable ports west of Santander-Sada that may be considered
Thanks

I also immediately thought of Ribadeo which has a decent little marina where there is generally a British yacht or two laid up. Drawback is that it is rather tricky to reach by land.

A quick web-search shows the crane as being 8 tonnes capacity. Yachts are stored ashore there but I don't know about security.

i have just returned from a 6 week return cruise from uk exploring this region.the following imformation is contemporary and may be of use. if you need more pm me.1,santander- good port shelter but marina now expensive by report- we anchored.2 Bilboa- club el abbra good superb facilities and cheap if they have space. some ashore storage. one boat overwintered last year. beware of dust. good local transport and excellent cheap uk flights c easyjet. club captain speaks good english. 3 Ribadao- new marina just complete c 25 visitors berths and all facilities by july. some suge got in c northerly and wash from ships. i paid 10euros per night. there is a hard but limited. 4, VIVERO-very sheltered. at least 3m in channel. many empty berts last week.pontoonas to 20m. electric/ water etc. showers below par in social club. travel hoist useual size. lots of grassy hard standing fenced but open to public. i paid 20euros [12.5 mtre]. deals available for long stays. a british yacht was launched having overe wintered and seemed happy.[legend 42]. good shopping attractive town. beaches +++. little sign graffiti etc. has a railway functional. repairs seemed available . didnot se chandlers. large fishing port adjacent. water clean no surface oil. cptain speaks good english and helpful in obtaining meteo. 3against is rather isolated and flights from santiago expensive. Gijon- expenisve 26 euros good facililties town. shelter good. visitors on unlocked pontoons. All above secure piledd pontoons with fingers and conventional cleat. all locals secure with heavy duty spring surge protectors. i am told climate v good untill xmas especially further east.
