I'm currently looking for small (and cheap) yachts capable of coastal exploration and I keep coming across Vivacity 650 yachts (well 2 to be honest.)

I've put a post on the 650 owners site but I was wondering if anyone here on the PBO forum has any experience of them.

I'm hoping to do a little exploring around the west coast of scotland and NW england - perhaps berthing in Preston.

For more details of ideas and the project please visit http://spaces.msn.com/5ksailing

Thanks in advance

Hi, I sailed a Vivacity 650 for a few years and can highly recommend them, they are well built and sail well. Many of the 650s that I see for sale seem to need a lot of work and will need new equipment, so it's worth searching out a good one. I sold mine for a little over 4000 pounds, but she was in very good condition, new sails and engine, electronics (all well worth spending on). A very enjoyable boat, excellent enjoyment-per-pound!

If you intend to sail off the Lancashire coast go for bilge keels so that you can dry out on a sand bank etc. I am fitting out a triple keel Fantasie 19 which I intend the sail from a tidal mooring in mud at Morecambe If you join the yacht club and put down your own mooring chains its free. The club fees are very reasonable and they have boat compound for winter storage with power water etc.

As well as the 650 (which I also like for the fact that it actually has bilge keel and a seperate heads) I'm also going to be looking at a NewBridge Navigator - if I can ever get in contact with the owner!! Grrrrr.

Perhaps people could surgest other boats to look at? My budget however is a tiny 2000 pounds for the base yacht and 1000 for additional jobs and re kitting!!
