Totally agree. If you want to go to Disney, the Eurostar will get you there with far less jet lag.

Oh, I'm a Yank myself, by the way.

Having been a number of times to both Eurodisney and Orlando with a myriads of attractions, not just one Park, there is absolutely no comparison, Even ignoring the fact that the weather is better in Florida (plus English is spoken and understood willingly, rather than grudgingly in France) !

As was said - it is very hot and 90% humidity in the south during the summer. I have friends (who I just visited) who live on the north of the Chesapeake Bay (opposite Annapolis) and they say it is too hot to sail in the summer. Even at my cousin's near Savannah in mid-October it was 28C. Go north as suggested - New England would be beautiful.

NY is a place that can take two weeks to see. It is really hard to say to someone where to go w/o knowing who they are and what they like. If you are outdoors people I would steer you one way if you are city folk I would send you a different way. Outdoors people I would forgoe NY and go to Yellowstone. Absolutely fabulous. The problem with it is that it takes a long time to get there. Yosemite is another great national park worth seeing. If you are city folk NY is a good spot to start and you can go up the coast to Boston. What we call history isn't going to have much appeal to you.

Please forgive me for asking a question not related to boats.
So here it goes: I am planning of visiting the US next summer for around 2 weeks. Myself, wife and two kids 9 and 7. We have never been there. Any suggestions on what to visit?
Thanks and apologies again.

PS: With 2 kids Las Vegas is out of question!

Another vote for Orlando, don't worry about hotel, hire a villa in the local area with pool for silly money.
They are all modern and huge and you can eat out cheaply.

visit USA..

as a native USA resident, i can tell you you dont want to be in florida in summertime. driving 1300 miles NY to FL is not something anyone would enjoy and would take you several boring days.. disneyworld is 100+ degrees and just brutal.our kids were so sick from the ehat all they w anted was to stay in a swimming pool all day...my suggestion would be : fly into new york, visit the sights, then take the train to washington DC, visit the airconditioned museums, then get up to boston, drive the coastline to portland maine and board an oldfashioned clipper ship to sail the Maine islands for a week.... fly back out of boston.

or fly to the west coast, land in sanfrancisco , see city sights then redwood forests, then drive north to bodega bay, then over to lake tahoe for a few days.. or the northern yosemite sights. grand canyon will be too hot, best to do that in feb or march..

once your trip gets closer do pm me , we'd be happy to send off more suggestions too numerous to mention in a email..

if you are anywhere near erie pa do

If you do do Orlando, I'd recommend you choose either Disney or Universal/seaworld flex tickets. Each one has plenty for you to do in 2 weeks and it gives you time to say, go in for a few hours and then spend the afternoon cooling off in the pool. Also, you then get time visiting the smaller attractions (eg new Legoland Florida?, the space centre, tampa, etc)

If you enjoy yourselves you can always go back another time and do the other half of Orlando.

Took the kids to Orlando in the summertime, might as well have stayed at home since they found it to hot to go outside for anything other than the swimming pool.

I can recommend upstate NY, Adirondack Mountains, Lake Placid, of Olympics fame, great place for children, all set in 6 million acres!

Another recommendation for Florida.

Here's our kids with Astronaut John Fabian at the Space Centre.

US unique

Two things that I would commend to you:

Native Americans (Indians) -- Navajo nation (near Grand Canyon) - amazing natural beauty and tragedy of the rez.

Civil Rights movement (Detroit/Memphis among other places). the disparity continues.

These are our 'warts' in the US, truly, I am ashamed by what my forebears have done.

(As for shopping or theme parks, I have little need for them - it's really no different here than in the UK or Europe)

For the children - do searches for 'hands-on' museums near where you'd like to go.

We loved Maine and it's nickname is 'Vacationland U.S.A.' as it is so popular with Americans. Hilton Head Island and the other east coast Barrier Islands are really nice with fabulous beaches catering for families, especially if you like golf.
