Do they still play music in the lock and offer advice such as 'hold on tight here we go'?

Very occasionally I have found that the pontoon wasn't in position because a large vessel had transited and they hadn't put it back yet.

I don't remember music, but they are always very cheerful. The way the tides work, it is hard for us to use free low in both directions, though it is popular with the ladies. This unforgivable chauvinist jibe is aimed at a few reluctant sailing-wives of my acquaintance. The pontoon wasn't always there, but the plastic 'chains' on the wall make it fairly straightforward.
