Visit Southwold

No need to organise fender boards in my experience. Firstly that video seems to date back a few years before the new floating pontoon by the HM office was built. Secondly whenever we have come directly against the posts, the HM has been there to greet us and pass the fender boards provided down to you.

As someone else noted, the video didn't mention the new pontoon and clearly guided visitors to the staging. While I agree that the HM is always helpful when he's there, that's not 24/7 and fender boards are not so common nowadays that everyone will expect them

I guess that if you plan to arrive at an unusual hour you would be correct, however we have never done so. :D
It is still possible to get alongside OK, and use one of their boards as long as reasonably close to HW, but then that is the right sort of time to come in anyway.

A fender board is an awkward beast to have on board unless you are to need it, we took one tp the waveney/Yare it had to be stowed on deck and even then we never needed it.

We actually filmed it in May this year and finished it a month ago.
Yes its conservative because as has been rightly suggested, its for first timers.
I've come in with a f6 gusting 7 easterly, four hours after HW, drawing 6'4" and was fine, but I don't recommend it!
The Avril Rose fishing boat is in and out in all weathers and all tides apart from dead lw springs and she draws 1.9m.

Yes we have new council floating stages and plans for more but tbh during the season they are busy by the time the HM goes home. (17:00 ish)
Remember if you are coming and worried about room, I usually know of at least 3 or 4 floating pontoons available, just drop me a pm or contact the boat yard.
We quite often host half a dozen boats over a weekend over and above the "official" ones.

I quite regularly dive into the pub and ask "whose the owner of the bla bla, cause she's hanging by her cleats"!
Only a 2m rise and fall but still catches the unwary.
Plus the number of people who try to leave the stage or pontoon down tide is frightening.
sorry ranting now..............
