As I understand it (and I am no expert) Netsky collects email addresses from everyone's address books as it does the rounds. Then it picks one at random and pretends to be from that address. I get messages from people I have never heard of telling me that I have sent them a virus. All it means is that Netsky has infected a computer that had my address in its address book.

There must still be plenty of people out there who aren't running anti-virus software.

Spammers, and maybe virusjocks have ways of using false origin names to fool your filters into thinking that messages are real, not false. Almost certainly the message you got has nothing to do with IPCmedia, but the domain name and handle were choosen deliberately by 'hand' or by virus because they make a genuine sounding 'received from' address.

Sorry but this is a case of someone having hijacked the @ipcmedia.com element of our email addresses and used it from their own ends. Am pretty confident the mail did not originate from our servers. That address does not exist on our mail servers.

Sadly we get similar things inbound all of the time from all sorts of mail addresses...

"A lot of sick people around"

But I understand that the pimply youth that "designed" netsky has been offered a job by a computer company.
