Hi

I am wondering if anyone knows of a safe cleaner/method of restoring some transparancy to my sprayhood vinyl screen. I have a slight cloudyness which would be best treating now if possible.

I once used Renovo and a polisher on a previous boat and ruined it completely.

Same on mine, I tried Meguiar's Plast-RX clear plastic cleaner & polish. It removes fine scratches, cloudiness & oxidation. It has made quite a difference to the sprayhood windows and improved the acrylic windows as well. I think I got it from Amazon...

For any persistent cloudiness or scratches use brass polish such as Duraglit, a wadding type with a very very mild abrasive just enough to remove the imperfections but not create more scratches. You'll have to rub quite a bit because it's so mild, but it's great on line scratches etc.

Overall once you've done that on the worst bits, polish the whole screen with Pledge, household polish. Yes I know it sounds cheap, amateurish etc but trust me, just try it. It brings it up a treat and disguises minor scratches altogether, makes the screens seem like new. Completely non abrasive and protects it nicely.

I've been doing the hood screens on my Mini Moke for years using the above method and they've lasted for years. Now doing it on the boat and it works just as well.

No need to buy fancy special polishes, the right household products are easier to obtain and just as effective, as well as cheaper.
