Vintage Wallas paraffin heater - advice needed...

Dear forum,

I have acquired an old Wallas paraffin heater (Type 1600) which fails to heat up.

I don't have any documentation or manuals for this unit and wondered if anyone out there still uses this type of heater and would be kind enough to let me have a copy of their user/service manual to help me figure out what's broken.

Initial observations:
After searching previous posts on this forum for advice I can confirm that the 12v power supply to the unit is ok (battery fully charged due to supply sensitivity reported by others). The three air circulation fans work when the unit is turned on and the suction fuel pump appears to be ok as it clicks every couple of seconds and periodically produces a little squirt of paraffin from the return fuel line.

I suspect there is an ignition element or glow plug in the burner somewhere but i'm reluctant to dismantle the unit before understanding how it's supposed to work.

Any tips / suggestions would be most welcome - thanks.

You can buy a service kit for the unit, it comes with all the info for fitting it yourself. Give it a go. Good luck..

They have downloads on their site and will be able to tell you if there is a service manual available for your model. (There isn't for the larger paraffin one)

I have the same problem as you with the larger model after a very rough trip. Have not stripped it down yet but the igniter is a hot wire over a wick in mine.

Kuranda were very helpful a couple of years back when I was looking for advise. I got spares from them including a new glow plug and wick pot.

Wallas service kit

Had a similar problem a couple of years ago. Kuranda superbly helpful and ended up with a service kit and telephone help. Did a full bench service, replacing the wick and heater element which came with the kit, and it fired up OK on refit and has run perfectly since.

I contacted Kuranda this afternoon and ordered a service kit for the burner after one of their engineers kindly called me back to talk through the problems I was having.

Aftersales support for this 20 year old piece of kit is indeed excellent.
