Hi All,
I have an ancient Seabee 3hp outboard, (mk2. seperate pipe for the exhaust) with a seized power unit. Have managed through sheer good luck (and ebay!) to find an as new 80cc engine for it. got the old lump seperated from leg and exhaust but can't get it to let go of the drive shaft.
Does anybody out there know if this is a splined arrangement or if some other method of joining engine to shaft was used? New motor's not much of a clue as it has an adaptor which fits the crank taper. and goes to a female spline, but this may well be different to what's fitted on the original..
any thoughts greatfully received.
TIA

Just one little comment on the old engine. You can get much more persuasion to free the seized piston if you have the head off the engine and can bash the top of the piston to get it to move rather than simply trying to turn the engine over via the flywheel. I have had Johnson o/bs seized and freed that way with little harm to the barrel etc. good luck oilewill

He means that the end of the crank won't separate from the top of the drive shaft. Usually just a square drive that has rusted and needs a bit of persuasion.

Thanks for your help chaps - seabeeforum doesn't seem to get much traffic - guess there's only a few owners out there- but the seagull forum seems to have come up with the answer, its actually threaded! as for the old engine I may try to free it up as a spare... another winter project for the list i guess! thanks again to all.
