Viewing a Birchwood 22 that's in a sad state

Hi folks,

I'm going to view a couple of project boats, tomorrow. One of them is a Birchwood 22. I'm calling it a project because it's been languishing on a canal mooring for a few years, with just the occasional change of tarpaulin to show that someone still cares. Other than that, it's going green and is being sold for less than £1k so I'm assuming work needs to be done! I'm not bothered - I like DIY. But I thought I'd ask on here for any advice on what I should make sure to look at when viewing. I don't have any experience with Birchwoods or much with motor boats, generally, so any sage words gratefully received. Cheers!

It'll cost more and take longer than you think, but nothing is unrepairable if you have the skill and the finance

If it's anything other than a minor refurb it will as Sneds says take longer and cost more than you think.

Have a look at Wayne's project in this link http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?461446-Buckingham-20-restoration-formerly-Plant-Pot Similar size to the Birchwood in fact 2' shorter so may well give you an insight into what you might find although yours might be in better condition and require less work.

Thanks for the link. Happy to say that the boat I'm considering is anything but a shell! I was offered a shell for silly money (four figures!), but politely declined. Nope, this one actually floats! Might even possibly have an engine that might possibly be made to work.

No pictures, yet. And if I did, they would only show a big blue tarp over a vaguely boat-shaped shape. More information will follow. Just looking to compile a list of things I should check while I'm there.

It was sinking, so I bought a Westerly, instead, which was not :encouragement:
