Viewed a Med based boat, work required.....

We had one from 2005 -2014 -- but it was well maintained.
Just goes to show .
Ours was my1st. Mo bo and vividly remember agent from Sunseeker ,who sensed I was a novice telling to tell me words to the effect of keeping on top of the maintenance etc ,or they go downhill rapidly .
Also my Guardienne in the SOF , stuff like hull polish etc is done every year .

It seems to have no Aircon ?
There's 14 y of deferred maintenance there .
We had our rear 1/4 haunches painted @ y 7 ,our teak bathing platform too was getting ready for replacement.
Tbh is was disapointed to find out it was not real teak .
We had some minor gel coat cracks near thebase of the cockpit SS window frame ,only 1cm long ,not that bad .
Radar arch tiny cracks ,bit near the top .
I put these down to me hammering it to hard up wind .It did used to slam a bit when pressed -but I guess they (all hard chine ) do ultimately ?
Bow cushion turned yellow -sun issues -we had it recovered .

Kad 300 + DPG were VP dealer maintained ,so no issues ,bit Ithink they were coming up for a "Major " -before I sold it .
turbo,s we tired and heat exchangers due a strip down ,+ risers were corroding .

Problem is VP out drives are fine new,or newish ,but after say 7-10 y +++ -then IMHO they turn into consumables.
Buyer be aware !
The b/T needed 2x gearboxes @€ 800 each. + labour fitting .
Towards the end VP BP 3.5 's from memory ,they are now out of parts s--- silly design .
Fischer Panda Geny of that era ,I would be surprised if it ,still working -corrodes away .Imanaged to bodge mine for its sale
Another big bill missed .

Actually looking back I spent a small fortune on them ,the engines over the9 y .

Allthough my current fuel bill is higher ,or can be ? -the maintenance cost of running a pair of 6 cy MAN,s is a fraction -really -just filters /fluids , and easy DIY -no real specialist knowledge ,skills or tools - truck engines .

What that P35 really taught me was this -- things I did not want in my next boat .
How ever we went all over in it @27 knot cruise -3000 rpm -Italy ,Elba ,Corsica ,Marsielle etc.
12 M handy size for getting a berth on spec .

That boat btw was for sale here in the SoF 2-3 y ago when I offloaded mine .It helped me:encouragement: buyers saw that I think they were asking €140K

Here a pic of a well maintained one - mine -no hull issues nice n shiny (Dulon 2)

Real teak -solid bath platform - 15 mm planks-on the Itama -- stainless steel marine grade (none coroding ) Paserelle ---- no "alloys " painted here

.

Although not shown there's no gel coat cracks ,craze anywhere .

The OP's prospective boat shows chronic neglect, my hard won experience is that if they neglect the cosmetic stuff then they scrimped on the engine stuff as well.

Thanks for the reply, those pics are what I had secretly hoped that the one in Puerto Banus would look like.

I've had a quote from the yard in Marbella to do the work which was reasonable in the scheme of things, but as you say, if the cosmetics are that bad, what maintenance have the engines and drives had? I think the owner will have to get the cosmetics sorted first to sell it and then hope that it stands up to a survey.

Ah yes, the classic purchasers requirement of a lovely boat for rock bottom money

At £76k was it ever going to be anything else

Guilty as charged but nothing wrong with hoping to have unearthed a bargain. In fairness there was a Fairline Targa 40 I had arranged a viewing for on same trip but it had sold the day before I got there.

My boat is sold subject to sea trial so I'm looking in earnest for 35-40ft sports cruiser for c£80k so Whitelighter, I know you love looking at boats so any recommendations welcome.:encouragement:

I have seen a 2005 Fairline Targa 34 (kad300s) that's nice condition and not on the open market which I would buy if I could strike the right deal, but it's a little over budget at the moment.

Quite like the look of this on the Sunseeker topic, albeit slightly older:

Yes it's interesting the range of asking prices and brokers ,lets call it blind eye .

Mine not surprisingly sold -gone -empty mooring in 3 weeks from listing .I pitched it or the Sunseeker broker pitched it mid table .We had a thick file of service history and bills , which the broker scanned in and sent with pics like this to two potential buyers .
E room after broker instructed my Guardienne what was required by his potential clients .

So having been on the selling end ,when the boot was on the other foot buying -- I reciprocated -- asked the broker for more detailed pics ( before flying to Naples ) - any faults ,did it all work etc .
This saved a wasted trip .

So my advice with a long range view is to sight more pics ,ask detailed q,s and via e-mail establish all the paper work .
If poss est the price too ,ie get it chipped to where you want to be and say to the broker "if it's as you describe and the pics
are true ,then I will proceed "

Ask the broker if it needs anything .
Next person that comes along for that boat to save wasting time he should inform of that new list of jobs / prices for the work .
But even so ,as others have said ,there's a huge risk with those engines /drives ,so I would say from the info given £50 K
As seen .

I used to buy my boats (25ft) from the UK (to IRL) with all negotiations etc. done via e-mail. I'd have enough info / pics / negotiation done that the only thing was to arrive in UK and trial. The owner took my word that I was genuine (given the work I put in) - Never let me down.

I can't believe the state some people sell boats (and other items).... it makes me laugh and cry. In my engine room, you could drop you food in the engine bay, pick it up and eat it! (With the exception of some belt dust by end of season). I wouldn't have it any other way.

OP: All down to how much of a project you want. Your budget screams "I want a big project", not "I want to turn the keys and go"

If the latter, feel free to talk to me about my Cranchi Smeraldo 37 ;) (I'm joking, not a hope i'm selling it)

We almost at the end of a refit on an Moody , luckily there not much we can do our self ,
Our cost so far has been just over 10k but if the work we have done all had to be done by a yard at a guess we would had been looking at 30k plus .
There a lot of good boat on the market at good price , there also lots of cheap boat which one think is a bargain but in the end of the day once your wallet empty you come to realise there wasn't as good as you think .
It best to pay tha t bit more and get a boat then need little doing to it ,
