The Squaddie has been a popular conversation piece on here, there are links in the news story to some video footage of her romping through the Solent, plus some more videos related to July MBY.

Cheers,

Jack

I was taken by the application of water jets on the Oyster, but set to wondering: with that bows-high attitude, how does the skipper see clearly where s/he is going ?

What's the view ahead like from other mobos without an upper steering position ?

We were moored up next to a 65 last wekend - stunning vessel!
C'mon Camelot! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

really like how the 65 Squadron rides which is low on the water
has a bit bow high on low end planning speeds but is not bad
would give this a 7/10
the Oyster is just close to perfect not only she is IMO the best looking UK built boat but also one which handles among the nicer I would give a 9/10
still is big competitionin fpr a tradition loster class with Hinckley, San Juan, Mochi, Rose Island, Toy etc etc

I think the Oyster is a gorgeous looking boat. Not sure I see the point in having waterjets. But then I'm a fan of keeping it simple with shafts.

One (prolly not the new 2 cabin job) went past me like I was standing still on the way into Pompey a little while ago.

Mind you, most boats go past me like I'm standing still. But I generally get there in the end. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would say to compete with Hinckley offering the same handling, but a lower price too

Hi William, here we go again... The 43 looks nice but I wouldn't allow my swmbo out on the decks in the marina, let a lone a harbour entrance like Yarmouth. We had one all last year at Sparkes and it has no guard rails at all and the fenders are attached to little srewed on chrome eyelets.

The guy that owned it either couldn't drive or they are hard to handle, it has digs and scratches on all sides. Like all other Oysters' grossly over priced!

Sorry but Nil Rat Points for the 43 from me. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

looks a bit (in fact a lot) like an old Sealine T51 to me, or is that a bit harsh?

Funny, thats exactly what I thought when I watched the clip although she must be much bigger.
Its probably the radar arch that makes it look like that.
I'm sure when we all see it close up at the next exhibition, we will change our minds.

hello Roger fair enough to each his own
if we all had the same taste I think there would be no need for a forum or would there be too, for agreeing

the rails yes you have a valid point, for example Mochis have all come out with them minus the one used for the brochure photos to show mostly the beautiful lines
Now I dont know if Oyster offer this as an option, but what I am sure is that all used ones on the market are without rails

as for handling with Jets I was on an AB Yachts with KameWa and the captain did handle them with ease altough he told me they are a bit more complicated to shafts to get used too
yes I have seen scratches on standard shaft with bow or stern thruster so unless one tryes this we will never have a definite answer for this...
hey who ever said all boat owners are good drivers

Thanks. I see the point about matching the competition. But what really are the advantages of jets? I only know of them in the context of tenders where people buy them because they're sexy and then sell them because they have to spend too much time clearing weed out of the impellors.

Thats a fair comment. I think it's the cab forward look and the design of the windscreen which looks similar from some angles
