There's a thread running in The Lounge which shows a yacht's stores to consist mainly of Fray Bentos pies.

I'm interested to know if you were away for say two weeks, how you would provision your boat?

2 weeks =14 days = 28 meals per person.

I pie = 2 person meals.

14 pies.



Is there any other food apart from ambrosia or manna ?

More seriously - pasta or gnochi with various sauces and cornish pasties (Waitrose for preference if we can't purchase them in the land of origin) have replaced FB pies. Managing cooker-top food is easier in heavy weather than the oven and pasties can always be eaten cold! Other than that; soup made from the contents of the ships stores (lentil & bacon, carrot & chestnut to name but a few of our recent efforts) and pork pies spread with mustard feature high on our list of lunches at sea. Evening meals depend on whether at sea or in port - at sea we aim for one pot easy to eat with a spoon or fork, in port its the results of shopping expeditions to the local market.

Cocktail cherries and cocktail sticks!! They definitely had a certain 'style' in those days didn't they? I did manage to munch my way through spuds,oranges and onions bought in Las Palmas though, so it wasn't all tin opener and scissors to get at the grub..

Tonic: 10 litres.
Rum: 4 litres.
Mixers: 10 litres.
Wine: 5 litre box plus a couple of better bottles.
Beer: 5 cases of 24.


Erm don't think i've forgotten anything... Maybe some Pimms if it looks to be fine weather.
