thinking of fitting one of these 1000A victron shunts to the house batteries
Smart Shunt 1000A/50mV - Victron Energy | eBay

the smaller 500A one is ample but i may need to start the KAD 44 via the house batteries perhaps, would the 1000A shunt be ok for this ?
will i lose accuracy on the house battery consumption with the bigger shunt ?

i could fit the 500A one and fit a switch to enable the house battery to be used to start if needed, v unlikely ....

suggestions please :)

I think I asked a similar Q once and ended up buying the 500A one...
When one of my starter batteries failed last year I was regularly starting the engines with the bypass from the service bank, no issues with the shunt, you should be OK with the small one

V.

I have the Victron 1000A smart shunt in my boat.
Using a Sidepower SE100 bowthruster and anchor winches off the house batteries without any issues with monitoring the batteries on the CerboGX.

I (personally) like how Cranchi went with a simplistic set-up.

There are 2 banks (how many batteries you want on each bank is your own choice).

A simple "1 - 2 - Both - Off" switch. When the engines are running, they charge both banks regardless. I usually leave setting on 'both', however I go with the rule "1 = Start / 2 = Domestic". So, if we're pulled up for the night and reckon we'll be using the batteries, we simply switch to "2", knowing that worst case, we can switch to "1" in the morning to start.

This has never let me down and when i'm re-wiring friends boats, we go with the same set-up as it's cheap, cheerful and works.

I now have a portable genny on-board, so if we are going hard on the batteries, the 220v charger is used for a few hours (provided our neighbours don't mind).

-Edit- Only clicked the link after I posted.... I see in the OP link it acts as a full battery monitor. Fair enough, my simple switch can't do that!
