I am installing a Victron BMV713 system. My house bank consists of 5x 70a/h batteries. The engine start is 125 a/h.
The negative cables for the house bank are installed as a ring, starting and finishing at the negative bus bar. This ring is also takes in the start battery negative. The cables are 50mm.
I understand I will have to run a separate negative from the start battery to the bus bar and re-wire the house negatives to the battery side of the shunt. I will retain the ring set up (excluding the start battery)
The question I have is what size cable do I need between the shunt and the bus bar. It will likely be max run of 30cm. Will 50mm be adequate or does it need to be bigger ( has the use of the ring style set up effectively double the carrying capacity ).

50mm² will be adequate........... It is rated at 345 amps . You presumably wont exceed that and with such a short run volts drop is not an issue
