Really nice to meet you and your family too.

St Peter Port used to be a favourite although SWMBO preferred the shops in St Helier. However it does seem to have lowered standards over the years like many places but I hate to see the alcaholics daily conventions by the marina and their abilty to ignore the tourist totally and close regardless over Bank Hols is IMO a bit arrogant. We have several 'favourite' restaurants in St PP that we used to look forward to visiting on our way home but not at their current prices. For example the prices at Saltwater Restaurant jumped from June 2004 to Sept 2004 by 31% (I keep the bills in our log). We now buy our own 'special treat' stuff from the fish market on the Boatworks Embankment where prices are still reasonable or we bring it with us from France. Others too have commented on this in the past on the forums so it isn't just me doing the Meldrew thing!

If the main tow parts then the tug can nip around the back and immediately pick up the secondary one.

So if giving way to a tug and tow cutting close across the stern could ruin your day

As I said ... I agree with you ... but was just commenting that he wasn't actually in the wrong technically ... morally and prudence maybe yes ...

I used to work for a while on Seismic ships towing the 3 mile cable ......... so I have firsthand knowledge of giving out warnings and also of stupid b.....ds who ignore and cross the cable ... ships / yachts / fishing boats etc.

We had a system on CGG Sesimic ships of transmitting on 2 freq's at same time ... 16 + whichever is recognised local channel for VTS etc. We had various ask us how we did it ... easy - two VHF's !! Hold 2 mics and press the tit !!

I can say quite honestly that the best and only real item that worked was the white very flare .... we went through box's of the things ... when I first started on them ... I would hear the flare go off and run out to see what was happening ... everyone else ignored it as routine on board ... I would go on watch and often use up anywhere from 1 to 5 a watch ... sometimes a lot more ... in addition to the regular Securite messages put out ....
