In the hope that a 'guru' can help...

I've fitted a second VHF (ICOM 421), and because of space restrictions, have mounted the antenna next to the antenna for my Nav6+ Navtex. All is very well, except that if the Navtex is powered, there's bad interference on Ch16 only... All other channels work fine...

Any solutions would be gratefully received and acted on!

My (new to me) boat suffers from the same Ch 16 interference problem, this time caused by the GPS and the plotter screen.

The nav6 antenna is more than just an antenna. It is the complete navtev receiver with mixers and oscillators. It does emit low level signals which can interfere with vhf. The only solution is to increase the distance between it and your vhf antenna.

Hmmm, thanks for your replies so far, though I'm left wondering: why does it only affect Ch16?

Possible... I was hoping that someone would put some numbers on it...

What, apart from Sod's law ?

But your VHF aerial is tuned to perform optimally on ch16, so I guess that if the navtex was in fact putting out a very weak RF at a range of frequencies, the one most likely to make it to your set is on ch16.

Just a thought after too many Tuskers, not convinced myself!

You are lucky the Nav 6 only affects Ch16! Place a VHF antenna (handheld is easiest) anywhere within a bit over a meter form the Nav6 display unit and and all channels will be interfered with unles you turn the squelch up to max. ICS were looking into this when it was demonstrated to them but when they were taken over by McMurdo all development on existing products was stopped and we have to put up with what we have got. However they are not the only one's, Raymarine are just as bad at not fixing serious problems on their equipment.
