Hey all

I have relaced my aging icom VHF with a more modern model and everything is setup apart from the external speaker. The existing external speaker as a jack connection as shown here which went straight into the old VHF kit.

The new VHF kit which is also icom uses 2 of the wires shown here to external speaker connection

So do I have to start dicing and slicing to connect these up or does anyone one know if such a connector exists please.

Photo of the connector is out of focus so can't work out the type. Possibly easiest to cut the jack pug and connector of the wires and join up with your preferred method. If only two of the wires are required, what is the third one for ?

Your second photo is a bit blurry, but I think the white plastic terminator on those wires might not be a connector just a way of holding the wires neatly until installation. Have you checked the manual?

I have an ICOM-M506 and the manual (page 105) says:
"NOTE for NMEA In/Out and AF Out leads:
The connectors are attached to keep the leads together.
Before connecting to a piece of equipment, you should cut
the leads to remove the connector."

'AF' being shown as the connections to the loudhailer and external speaker.

One of the typical aspects of the old VHFs using that plug is that on inserion of the plug the internal speaker is disconnected. This obviously can not happen with just adding wires. It would be surprising if the new VHF did not have provision for muting the internal speaker. Or perhaps it will not bother you. Presumably the additional speaker in parallel will not harm the radio with lower load impedance. ol'will

The new VHF on one of the boats I work on is incredibly sensitive to speaker impedance and will cause the internal speaker to over drive if incorrect. Speech is unintelligible and low volume.

Make sure you test on a number of stations before making anything permanent.
