Hi my vhf has stopped transmitting although i can hear all transmisssions clearly. My set is a Raymarine 240e i have checked all connections which seem fine, please help????
I was hoping to find the owners manual on line but no luck.
Checking the PTT button is valid suggestion but there should be some indication that the set has switched to transmit. If no indication then yes look at the ptt switch.
If the set indicates that it is in Transmit mode then the aerial could be defective. You get reasonable reception from any old bit of wire plugged into it but you wont transmit effectively. Trying the set on a known good aerial is probably the best way to check.
Are your transmissions failing on all channels or only some. If only some (7, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 65, 66,78, 79, 80, 83 & 88) have you accidentally switched to the US or Canadian channels. It's a common pitfall! Try calling someone on a Duplex (2 frequency channel) other than those listed above
EDIT
Having looked at the design I guess inspecting the PTT switch may not be such a sensible suggestion after all! Valid for radios with a fist mike!
Found the owners manual on line now too! Cannot see anything about swtiching to US channels. May not be possible with the European version. Worth looking into though.
You need to get someone in the boat next door to listen to your transmission. If they can hear a carrier but no audio its the mike insert,if no carrier at all it could be the push to talk switch.
Check volts on RX and again when trying to Tx,if volts drop away dramaticaly, from 13v to say 3v or 4v you have power problem, check fuse or battery connections.
Aerial very rarely go faulty,so always check PL259 on back of set.
Next trick would be to borrow SWR meter and see if radio is putting out plenty of power, however again very rare for power module to die these days.
