I hope this isn't posted in the wrong place. Am currently on holiday in north Devon, (burglars note we have house sitters), and, after sporadically listening to channel sixteen VHF over twenty four hours, have only heard Swansea Coast Guard make a few announcements.

Should I be listening on another frequency for local boats or is it just that quiet on the radio?

Thanks.

Could be your location does not offer you good reception. You should pick up Wales . Are you on the coast?

Westward Ho! in a caravan. Just a telescopic whip on the receiver. As I say, can hear Swansea C.G. but surprised to receive nothing else at all.

ah, bother, I was over at Instow this afternoon. I could have asked you for a radio check. ;)

See if you can find Pauline's Ice Cream shop....

It would have been my pleasure - and I'd have climbed on the caravan roof and replied with semaphore. Well tea towel waving at least - have only brought a receiver.

My young son seems to be determined to eat every ice cream in the county so will probably find Pauline's shop. Not 'the' Pauline?

In the old days there was a radio station at Ilfracombe however the geographic features around there could mean that the local headlands and hills blank of reception where you are except from over the sea in Wales.

M 1nd M2 tend to get the most traffic as they are the ones used by the boat club and local ferry. Since starting sailing this season I have noticed it is quiet on the radio.
