Have spent the whole evening trying to pass the VHF test , results tomorrow morning. Hard work at this state of Alzheimer ! Been studying the material for two days.
How was your test ? Did you pass first time ? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Haven't got a clue if somebody failed, they told that one have to get 80% right to pass.
Next will be the SSB test , even tougher ? Have you done that ?

It is like a booklet to study, 51 pages, and then to the test you get very little support material. mainly the test is concentrating around distress alerts both verbal and DSC.
Cannot compare to the UK test, don't know them at all.

Has anyone ever failed..

Yes. Our club set up a VHf DSC course fairly recently and someone failed it. Tough on him but at least it gives those who do pass the feeling that they have been properly trained and tested.

What do you think, what percentage of boaters who have VHF on board also has the license in UK ? I guess in Finland it's quite high not to have one , it's not controlled really .

Here in the UK you are awarded the certificate if you can show you are still breathing at the end of a day's tuition.

Fabulous to hear that someone has failed! Respect

I did a distance learning course in food nutritional values. The company I work for wanted me to do it even though I only do 2/3 days a week as a relief. After 5 months of home study I had to sit a multi choice exam, what a load of bollux.
First question
A balanced and healthy diet is;

A> good for you
B> bad for you
C> makes you slim
D. makes you sick

I found some of the course quite interesting, but the exam was a joke. We had 1 hour, I finished in 4 mins, luckily there was a pub over the road.

I see your boat is in the US you can get one there without any test. You just pays your money sign a statement that you can speak English and it comes back in a couple of weeks.

Just received the e-mail

Hei,

Eilisen meriradiotutkintosi tulos oli positiivinen, eli SRC-pätevyystodistus tulee 2-3 viikon kuluessa postitse.

Sait kokeen A-osasta 90 % oikein ja B-osasta 98 % oikein.

Ystävällisin terveisin
