vhf course

Memorise Mayday and Pan Pan procedure would make it easier, there is an acronym
MIPDANIO

Listen carefully during tutorial as instructor has a pretty good idea what you might be tested on.

When we did our test at the end nerves set in for all of us but much to the testers annoyance he gave us several goes until we got it right so Relax!

thanks guys , I dont like it when they done give you books to read first ,
I like to be prepared for something so important

I know someone who attended the course with a hangover and passed but to this day is no good with the radio. Last year she complained their new handheld was not receiving despite having turned the volume up. I had a look at it and it turned out she had turned the squelch up to full.

As said its an enjoyable day if you pay attention . Nothing to worry about.

I have my course booked for tomorrow
any thing I should be reading to help me
I know the phonetic alphabet
thanks
When we did our vhf they had the phonetic alfabet prominently displayed during the entire training and test. Not naming and shaming....

No one fails do they ?

I nearly did! I had a Restricted Marine Certificate (covered VHF & MF/HF) issued by the Board of Trade in the early 90's, but it did not include DSC, so in 2015 I did the RYA exam. Unfortunately for me, I had picked up bad habits as all my radio use had been speaking to offshore stand-by vessels (usually crewed by ex-trawler men) or supply boats, and "correct" radio procedure was rarely followed - this did not go down very well with the ex-RN examiner. Fortunately, rather than fail me, he told me to go away and come back in 1/2 an hour, when I did manage to do it to his satisfaction.

I played around with a redundant set, read a few laminated cards, whilst the examiner buggered off to watch cricket in another room, pass.

You could ask your VHF instructor tommorrow during a tea break or you could ring Offcom and see what they want to do, they may need to give you a new call sign if no where in the paperwork is a previous boat name, this is assuming it had a fixed radio in the past

I have emailed off com who issued the licence
also included the ships registration and a long winded apology for being a twat

im hoping they can transfer the number to a fixed licence
otherwise ill have to send off the new radio
