Poole Harbour last Sunday afternoon, we were anchored up off Pottery Pier just enjoying lunch.

The VHF sparks up with a pan-pan. A panicky and somewhat agitated female voice says that she is off Goathorn Point in a small yacht and has been rammed by a a 'large motor boat' and it was now embedded itself in her bow.

The calming voice from Portland coastguard (also female and sounding lovely) goes through the usual routine and asks all the necessary questions. The lady sailor sounds as though she is wavering between panic and serious anger with the muppet who ran into her.

When asked by the CG if she had any method of communication with the other boat she said " Communication? He's practically on my bloody boat!"

All was well in the end but that's a comment I will remember for a long time.

missed that one - must have been in the bar by then (Swanage).

followed you back in through the harbour entrance later on Sunday but we headed off to South Deep for a few hours to watch the sun go down rather than following you up the main channel.....

I heard that VHF call, made me smile as well, I was passing Aunt Betty at the time (those not familiar with Poole will wonder who Aunt Betty is!)

Saw Black Feather, in the Quay Boat Haven, and on AIS.

Anyway, long time no see, Duncan. Trust all is well.

Reminds me of a similar conversation between a tug which had gone aground in the Sound of Mull, and Oban CG (of blessed memory).

"Uh huh, you're at Ardtornish Lighthouse. Tell me, are you East of the Lighthouse, or West of the Lighthouse?

"I've hit the bl**** Lighthouse!"

Cheers Geoff, all's well - it's because I haven't been there rather than you missing me!

Hoping to get out a bit more now...will text over my number in case it's been so long you only have the old one.
