Off the back of some of the recent threads talking about antennae and AIS splitters etc, it occurred to me that quite a few VHF sets now come with integral AIS - do any also come with a built in wifi box that will talk to the chartplotter / repeater etc?

If not then
a) why not?
and
b) what extra box of wiggly amp magic is needed to make this happen?

Regarding (b) I use one of these http://yakbitz.com/Yakker.aspx to send nmea 0183 AIS data to my tablet. Works perfectly.

Not a VHF set, but a dedicated AIS transponder, the Vespermarine XB 8000 can send data via WiFi. I then use WiFi to view it on my iPad.
