Hello everyone,

This is my first post, but i am longer time reader i usually find the answers to my questions rather than having to ask.

Anyway i digress, I bought a 25ft Bermudan cutter last year which has a Vetus M3.10 and the sea water pump has been removed, i am guessing so that it can run whilst ashore for very short periods, however i have been through all the bits and bobs that came with her and cannot find it. So i went to my local Vetus dealer and got a price for the part which came in at £225 plus VAT plus delivery, which is a tad more than i anticipated and oh how i'm quickly learning that nothing is ever as anticipated with boat ownership. My question is are there any alternative solutions to missing sea pump or will i have to bite the bullet?

Your thoughts please...

It's a Johnson 10-35240-1 pump, but I doubt that you'll find it much cheaper anywhere else - in fact, most suppliers charge more than the Vetus price you've had.

If you are replacing the front cover, it makes sense to fit a Speedseal. Much better than the standard cover.

I have found the image of pump thanks to your part number PVB and the aquafax website NorthUp, and looking at it i only need the blanking plate which covers the pump.

OK, if you only need the end cover you can order it separately - part 01-45282. ASAP list it at £9, but it seems to be out of stock. You could try other suppliers. However, I'd second Tranona's recommendation of the Speedseal.

It is a replacement cover than seals with an O ring rather than a paper gasket and is designed so that it slides onto the securing screws with one acting as a lock screw. Does away with those 5 or 6 little screws that hold the standard cover on - and which have an affinity for the bilge when you are taking the cover off. Bit pricy but worth it for security snd ease of replacing impeller www.speedseal.com

Tranona, thank you very much.

Just spoke with speadseal and ordered my new speedseal life safety cover. should be with me tomorrow or friday.

I'll let you know how i get on with it.

Thank you everyone for your advice.

Well my speed seal arrived and i was v ery impressed with the quality of it all very nicely engineered. It was then fitted on saturday morning with ease, bar dropping one of the nurl screws into the bilge right below the engine, but as it wasn't just a little screw (like a direct replacement would have been) its was easily recovered plus i found £1 whilst looking for it!

Now most of the work neccessary to go sailing has been done i am booked to go in the water on Friday 6th August. Very excited!

Thank you all once again.
