I want to add AIS to my Nav aids - currently have an old Raymarine C80, Radar, ST60 instruments / autopilot and Navtex. I was thinking of pushing the boat out and going for the VesperMarine Cortex so any first hand experience gratefully received including integration to the much older kit.
  • Has anyone used and any feedback on the VHF capability?
  • Does it enable the existing VHF to be left installed?
  • Does it also allow the wireless integration to Navionics on a phone or tablet?
Many thanks in advance.

I had similar original equipment but chose the Digital Yacht AIT1500, keeping the existing VHF. It was very easy to fit as it handles both speeds of NMEA 0183. Not much help to you, sorry.
Thanks, that is helpful and will take a look - Although I like the look of the Vesper equipment, I'm undecided what to do and go from 'do nothing' to replace the whole lot! It's all getting on a bit.

It's always a bit annoying when someone says: "Have you tried asking the company?" because, of course, you are asking here to get people's experience and ideas.

However, when you have things worked out, it would be well worth sending them a detailed E Mail. I have some Vesper kit and have found their communications excellent.

I have exactly the same nav equipment as you and bought a Vespermarine XB8000. That interfaces well with the C80 and allows the use of Navionics or OpenCPN or the Vespermarine tablet display app over wifi to tablet, phone or laptop. I use all three.

Hi. The documentation states that the unit has connections to allow you retain your current VHF radio as a backup. Very thoughtful.

Concerning feedback, there are two reviews on the Panbo boating web site and a few readers have shared their experience in the comments.
