Very Scary Fire Aquastar 38

In no particular order .

Gas on board .= naked flames .
No EGT gauge = plastic exhaust section goes up .
No sea water pump pressure gauge = exhaust over heats see above , bag on the inlet etc .

DIY er bodger with electrics …long shot buts it’s in the mix somewhere ?
Fire extinguishers in the ER never serviced or in date ?

Its not luck running out you make your own luck .

Anyone up for an insurance survey ;)

At least they survived it .

@Portofino remember the big Princess that burned to a cinder in Torquay the other week? A customer of mine saw it come in. Very bow thruster happy. Could be totally unconnected (not even sure if its electric B/T) but I'd add overheating bow thrusters to your list.

I saw smoke from Ryde whilst watching the hovercraft come and go. I suspected it was a boat fire by the blackness and density of the smoke. Glad everyone got off okay. I thought it was nearer Chichester to Portsmouth though.

Re visit the pic = no fire @ bow area .
Also why run the BT when cruising or indeed leave it on ?

The big Priny too had the fire at the helm area , certainly not @ the bow area if you care to examine the umpteen u tube vids .
Aside I did refer to electrical issues in a round about way of Bodger DIY ers .

The fire on this boat does seem very engine room focused to my eye from the image posted ?

Probably best not to point fingers with no knowledge. I expect we have a boat owner who is
1 Grateful to be alive
2 Devastated at losing their boat
3 Racking their brains considering what they could have done to prevent this.
Disagree !
Rather than adopting the “jog on by “ attitude imho it’s better to short list potential causes because as a learning exercise it might save a life in the future.

Out at sea?

I was impressed to read that the two tanks of diesel were salvaged as the boat sank. Not sure on the logistics of that but impressive stuff.

It is strange how some can cast aspersions of neglect and blame without knowledge of the actual cause of the fire.

I don't know the owner it could be anyone of many factors that contributed to a serious problem, it often is.

Looks more Nelson than Aquastar but difficult to tell, no matter what make, it must be absolutely terrifying
and the mix of emotions when back on dry land must be so difficult to deal with. I hope the insurers play ball.

Fully agree. The owner has suffered enough hardship without a bunch of amateurs jumping in his case.

I’m not “jogging on”, whatever that means, but pointing out that none of us have a clue as to the cause, and the poor owner has suffered enough for now.
